Hermes Agent with Muapi
Use Muapi text models with Hermes Agent by configuring Muapi as a custom OpenAI-compatible endpoint.
1. Create a key and choose a model
Create an API key in the Muapi dashboard, then list the available text models:
curl -s "https://api.muapi.ai/v1/models?type=text" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $MUAPI_API_KEY"
Choose a model with capabilities.tools: true. Hermes requires a model with a context window of at least 64,000 tokens for its agent workflows; check the model's context limit before selecting it.
2. Configure Hermes Agent
Run the model setup wizard:
hermes model
Choose Custom endpoint, then enter:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| API base URL | https://api.muapi.ai/v1 |
| API key | Your Muapi API key |
| Model name | The exact model ID from Muapi's text model list |
Alternatively, set the endpoint in ~/.hermes/config.yaml:
model:
default: YOUR_MODEL_ID
provider: custom
base_url: https://api.muapi.ai/v1
key_env: MUAPI_API_KEY
Store the key in ~/.hermes/.env:
MUAPI_API_KEY=your-muapi-api-key
Replace YOUR_MODEL_ID with the exact model ID from the Muapi model list.
3. Start Hermes Agent
Start the CLI or terminal UI and try a small task that uses a tool:
hermes
# Or:
hermes --tui
Once the model works, connect messaging platforms with hermes gateway setup.
Troubleshooting
- If Hermes cannot connect, verify the base URL ends in
/v1, the key is available, and the model ID is exact. - If the model does not use tools, select one with
capabilities.tools: true. - Hermes requires at least a 64K context window; select a model that meets that minimum.
- Start with a small task and check usage in the Muapi dashboard.
See the Hermes Agent provider documentation for custom endpoint setup and the configuration guide for current settings.
